Another Great Organization

I wanted to bring attention to this organization, so I asked my dear friend Rebecca (who is a member) to do a little write up for me. If you are an actor or involved in the front or behind the scenes of the film and television industry, these guys are great for networking. I have attended a couple of their events and they are a great crowd.

Women in Film and Video Vancouver

http://www.womeninfilm.ca/index.php

“is a non-profit society of professional women founded to support,
advance, promote and celebrate the professional development and
achievements of women involved in the British Columbia Film, Video and
Television Industry.”

Membership is open to women working in film, video, television and
multimedia (minimum of two years professional film and/or television
experience to be eligible for a full membership), and women not working in
the industry, as well as men and organizations who support their mandate
and objectives, can become a “Friend of WIFVV”, which gives you all the
benefits of membership except the ability to vote at the AGM.

Being a member of WIFVV gives you the chance to meet and network with
people working in the industry, and to benefit from loads of
opportunities, workshops and seminars. They send out a weekly e-mail
listing jobs, events, screenings, free movie tickets etc. This is
especially helpful if you’re just starting out in the industry, looking
for work or for opportunities to upgrade or add to your skills.

They’re currently waiving the $25 administration fee for new members, so
(not including GST) the Full membership is $125 per year, Associate
membership $100, and membership for students, seniors and people with
disabilities is $50. It’s a little pricey, but if you’re trying to
establish a career in film or television in the Lower Mainland, they’re a
great resource.

  1. They are a good group. I attended their joint gala with Wired Women a few years ago –since I am fuckin’ wired, eh.

  2. Great info! Thanks for the link too. I’ve been a freelance makeup artist doing some short film gigs before I moved here from Ottawa. The industry is awesome out here so I’m looking for lots of opportunities. My daughter is only 2 so I have to wait for a while longer until I can acccept work again. LONG HOURS!!
    Thanks again, Heidi
