Wet Coast Wow
I don’t know if you all know, but I am one of thousands of members of BlogHer.org. They are a fantastic community of amazing women bloggers, etc. So fantastic, that they have annual conferences. I am attending this year, and cannot wait. I am very excited about the opportunity to meet and listen to some incredible bloggers and businesswomen. One of the amazing things that has sprung forth from these ladies is what they are calling the BlogHers Act. Basically, a call to arms for you to voice your feelings and opinions on what the BIG issues are to you. They posed two questions - #1 Choose a global issue – BlogHer’s red-hot issue for the year. And the second one was to focus on the up and coming US election in ‘08. The response was incredible. This was my impassioned offering.
I truly believe that the Internet can be a powerful force for good. Cliche? Yes, sort of. But what a perfect tool to combine a myriad voices into one powerful yell. The ultimate lobby group. Instead of us all posting about woulda’s and shoulda’s…..combined we SHOULD be able act. Not talk…act. Or at the very least, force people to take notice and listen up. This concept of ACTing for our causes is the basic focus of the Chicago Convention this year.
Here is where YOU come in.
The amazing Catherine of Her Bad Mother and the rest of the crew at Mommy Blogs Toronto want to hear the CANADIAN voice in this. Since BlogHer has the second American focused question.. ..
We want to hear what the CANADIAN hot button issues are. What do you FEEL needs attention in this country? What NEEDS changed right now? What is YOUR passion?
Go and visit Mama Karma for the full details…but you get the picture.
Let’s make sure the voice of Western Canada is heard loud and clear. Post in Mama Karma’s comments or add a link to your ACT post on your own site. Please share the link here too for all of us to read and be inspired by.
We should have some buttons soon too for our sites…I will keep you posted.
Let me know what you all think and let’s spread the word!!!

Awesome - I’m a BlogHer member too and I attended in Cali last year! Can’t make it this year, what with saving for my wedding, but that’s awesome that you’re going. I’m also thrilled that they have launched Bloghers Act and even more thrilled that Canadians are contributing with their own version.
I’m still on board with the global warming cause, I still think it’s the #1 problem at the moment. If we don’t take care of it then nothing else will matter.

Canadian Hot Buttons issues for me transcend gender: global warming (climate change), responsible government (at all levels, local, provincial and federal) and keeping our children safe.
I’m off to visit Mama Karma now!

Great idea! While global warming is the over-arching issue of our time, I like you, am finding it hard to accept the poverty and homelessness in Vancouver and all across the lower mainland. As a newcomer to the province, I have been shocked and feel helpless. The Vibrant Communities movement is an effort to find solutions http://tamarackcommunity.ca/g2.php - maybe this would be a good cause.
