Oh Canada

So this is the Canada Day Weekend.

For work at home’s and stay at home’s, long weekend don’t have much meaning.  But since having kids I have always tried to get out and enjoy some of the events celebrating our wonderful country.

I haven’t decided yet about what we are doing this year.

Is everyone else all ready?

This lovely lady, whom I spotted over at BlogCatalog wants everyone to write about why they are proud to be Canadians.  A top ten would work.

I was not born in Canada.  I arrived here when I was 11 years old.   I am sad to say that I haven’t seen much of our fair land, but still plan on it.

However, I think it is a great place.  And while I bitch about Vancouver and it’s problems, I am still glad to be a Vancouverite.

Why I think Canada is great:

1.  The people.  The diversity.  The warmth.  People around the world are always happy to meet a Canadian

2.  The Geography.  Wow..this country is HUGE.  We have every type of geography and weather covered in this country.   The mountains take my breath away every single day.

3.  Our Political System.  For all it’s flaws and corruption.  It has thankfully been fairly transparent AND changeable.  When the people speak, they are generally heard.  Thankfully here, the governments still seems (mostly) to work for us and not the other way around.

4.  Our Healthcare.   Again, it is dreadfully flawed and needs a total overhaul from the ground up, but I am still thankful it exists.

5.  The Canadian sense of humour.  (see..H.U.M.O.U.R. - the REAL spelling)  I think we have some of the funniest people around.

6.  CBC.   I love the CBC…especially the Radio.  I listen to Radio One as much as I can.  I think it is the voice of Canada.

7.  Our National Anthem.  It is a good song and thank goodness easy to memorize!

8.  The Animal Kingdom.  I like that this country is still very wild.  That bears and cougars lurk at the edge of civilization.  I love that Eagles fly over my head.

9.   Our Flag.  It took long enough, but it was a great choice

10.  Our International affairs……again, there is flaws, but for a large country with a small population, we do the best that we can.
