Ecologically Friendly Logging in British Columbia

My 93 year old ‘Pop’ has 6 acres of property on the Sunshine Coast and decided he wanted to log it. It was logged in the early 1900’s - before he owned the property. You can still see the huge old stumps with springboard notches cut into the side. There is not enough timber on his property to hire a logging company and he has lots of experience and he’s a ‘do-it-yourself’ kinda guy with all the know-how.

He couldn’t afford to buy any equipment but found his old springboard and falling axe in the shop, so just needed a gas donkey - or something - to move the logs to the water to boom them, once he fell the trees and limbed them.

There are many anti-logging people and Pop doesn’t likes to cause any controversy or problems in area. His motto has always been ‘live and let live’. He’s lived in the community for nearly 100 years and certainly doesn’t want to offend anyone now!

This is the ‘machine’ he came up with to get the logs out of the bush - and it’s working out very well - see the piles of logs? He’ll be booming them soon with the help of the seals.
