Blog Love or You Scratch My Back and I will Scratch Yours

Posted by crunchy | January 16, 2007 .

That is how blogging works really. The more links you make, the more comments you make, the more links and comments you get back. That is the core to the blog world. There are also a bunch of directories you can list your blog on, and there are review blogs too. Some good, some bad. The point is, there are many ways to make ‘friends’ in the blogosphere, especially if traffic and page ranking are important to you.

One person/blog who seems to be happy to share in the ‘feel the blog love’ is John Chow. He has asked or ‘suggested’ that new bloggers review his fine site for a bit if the action. Action as in linkage from a high traffic site. Being that he is actually a local ‘boy,’ I think it fitting that Wet Coast Women gives him a nod!

I first came across the name when a blogging friend of mine, who happens to be married to a charming fellow who runs a hosting company, MonsterHosting.ca brought our attention to a very kind review that they had received from John Chow. It was perfect timing as I was about to launch myself into the world of hosting and Word Press blogging. I had, of course already been looking at their hosting services, but thanks to John Chow, I received a nice discount when I signed on! And yes, I am very happy with their services!

Since then I have checked in a few times to see what other tidbits of information he could provide me. John Chow Dot Com is a nice clean and easy to read site. Probably a good lesson right there for novice bloggers. He has kept it simple and uncomplicated even down to any ad placement he may have. Nothing feels terribly obtrusive. Again, a good lesson for newbies.

He is also a good writer. He is very clear that the information provided is based on HIS opinion. It is his views on whatever the subject may be. Take it or leave it. I like that. I don’t feel like I am being ‘sold’ something. It also has a nice balance of personal vs. tech or business talk. You feel like you are getting to know the gentleman and he is seems to very open about his life. With the bonus of hearing his views on blogging, the technology and the business. Oh, and I like The Keg too!

While I get the distinct impression that John and I do not travel in the same circles, despite living in the same city (though my husband HAS attended E3), I don’t get a sense of pretentiousness from him. He is who he is. Either get something from the blog, or don’t. He is basically offering a free service and for people like me, who are interested in learning the business of blogging as well as just having fun with it, it is a valuable source of information.

I read John Chow’s blog on a regular basis and enjoy his work. I also wonder what he thinks the Wet Coast Women blog would be about ;)

    Nice review!

How do you like monsterhosting ? I have a few clients looking for a webhost and I haven’t heard much of them except for the special promo code they had with John.

I came across John Chow’s blog only few months ago and I must say I cant stop keep coming back.|

Tyler, the MonsterHosting crew are great….while a novice like me can be a bit confuddled by their control panel layout and so on, the HELP is awesome. They have great tutorials and seem to have 24 hour support too. They are very patient with people like me!

Thanks Michael. I will add you for sure!!!

    Nice review Crunchy.

John is a good guy, he may be caked with cash, but he doesn’t rub it in, he just enjoys it :-)

    A blogger to aspire to…
