Looking for Quality Live Theatre?
A couple of my friends are appearing in this play put on by the White Rock Player’s Club …a long drive for a play, but I know a bunch of the actors and director and they are all excellent…..fine talent.
“Madonna”, by Don Nigro
Directed by Dale Kelly
April 04 to 21, 2007
“From the New York Times: A gripping drama with a cast of famous historical figures, “Madonna” takes its title from a Munch painting. Part biography, part psychological exploration, “Madonna” flashes back and forth through Munch’s life, beginning with a visit late in World War II (and late in Munch’s life) from Knut Hamsun, the 1920 Nobel laureate in literature who was one of Norway’s conspicuous Nazi collaborationists.
In common with other Nigro plays like “The Dark Sonnets of the Lady” and “Anima Mundi,” his latest work is liberally peopled with historical figures:
a flamboyant August Strindberg, a capering, mad Friedrich Nietzsche and a suffering Henrik Ibsen. In scenes that move between Norway and Paris and Germany and Copenhagen and pre-Revolutionary Russia, there is much talk of the importance of madness to artistry, about the existence (or absence) of God and about love, betrayal and destiny, most of the last three inspired by Dagny Juell, the free-spirited artists’ model who beguiles Munch and his circle of bohemian friends.”
Featuring Richard Bernard (or Ben Odberg), Mike Busswood (or Dale Kelly).
Rebecca Walters, Tim Driscoll, Ken Fynn, Glenn Surzyshyn, Fred Partridge, Marina Benitez-Lazzarotto, Shadan Saul, Kathleen Kelly-Driscoll, Colin Lane and Kait Busswood

We made the trek out there from PoCo to see the show as we are friends with the Director and a few of the cast members.
Our friends did not dissapoint. Their performances were great.
Nigro gets a little too long winded in his writing at times which makes for a long show. But it is worth toughing out a numb bum!
Very interesting story, great cast and great direction.
