My dh has been in a bit of a melancholic mood lately….I figured that by the choice of music I found in the car.
Now, thanks to him, I can’t get The Cure song ‘Lullaby‘ out of my head. I loved that song. And it always makes makes me think of Luvafair.
There was this goth guy that I new. He was very good looking in a Billy Idol sort of way. Bleached spikey blonde hair. Pale pale skin and always dressed in black with the requisite Fluevog shoes. He was long and angular and danced like a graceful spider. I was sooooo hot for him. I could watch him dance all night. He was my dream Lestat…..let’s remember this WAS the late 80’s…..I wasn’t even 20 yet.
When he danced slowly to Lullaby, parts of me melted. He was so into the music and so into the moment. I don’t think he was a terribly happy young man. He had a crummy job and no real prospects. But I thought he was great. Even though he did seem a bid dangerous to me.
I LOVED going to Luvafair. I would dance the night away. It was a place to hear great music and just enjoy dancing. It wasn’t a meat market or pick up joint. I was young and skinny and loved wearing my black slinky gear.
It started to change in the 90’s and I lost interest in the music and the crowd.
I don’t think the clubs of today have the same vibe as Luvafair did.
People make fun of the 80’s, but music wise….it was the best.

Did you go to the reunion night thingy? I didn’t, couldn’t see spending $25 for a Thursday night… Saw pictures, weird fashion show and such… They are doing another one. There is a website etc.
