New Contributor: Laura

Hellooooooooo everybody! I thought I’d follow Miss Crunchy’s lead and introduce myself as a fellow contributor to Wet Coast Women. My name is Laura, I’m 27 years old and I currently live in Burnaby. I grew up on the North Shore and my family still lives there, so I’m over that side of the bridge as often as possible. I moved away from 1998 - 2003 to attend school in Ontario, but was itching to get back so I returned home to the “wet coast” three years ago.

I met a wonderful guy named Chris two days after I got back to Vancouver, and we’ve been together ever since. We moved in together in Burnaby two years ago. Last summer we got a puppy named Sierra (she’s 8 months old now) and at Christmas, he asked me to marry him! We are getting married in Vancouver in August 2008. My other blog, From Sparkly to Spouse, is about planning my wedding so if you’re interested in Vancouver weddings, or just the planning process in general, head on over!

I currently commute downtown to work a 9-5 office job. I am a hospitality industry consultant, but my previous job was in marketing and I miss the creative aspect of that work. I am working sloooooooowwwwwly towards becoming a freelance writer, editor and event planner.

I’ll be writing about what the West Coast lifestyle means for someone like me: a young office working, dog loving, wedding planning, yoga practicing, up and coming 20-something girl in Vancouver. Till next time…

  1. Thanks for the great intro..hopefully OTHERS will follow…ahem?

Do you skytrain to work? I used to.
    Can’t say I miss it!!

  2. is that a hint Crunchy?? lol

  3. Glad to be here… and no, I do not Skytrain to work! Instead I pay twice the price of a transit pass for a downtown parking spot, plus the extra gas, just so I can drive myself to work with my music blaring, alone. It starts my day off in a better mood. Much preferable to being squeezed in between stinky, sweaty, tightly packed people on the Skytrain who have a gross habit of sneezing on their hands and then grabbing the communal pole that everyone hangs onto for balance with those germ-covered hands. Ewwwwwww.

I wish I could take public transit so I could be more environmentally friendly and save some money, but I tried it for a month and it made me miserable!

  4. I have to admit that they days I had the car for my commute were pure freaking heaven.
Plus my parking cost the same as taking the bus!

I do not miss the skytrain.

  5. Laura, it sounds as though you are one busy girl! Nice to meet you and I’ll be looking forward to hearing lots more about your wedding. Congratulations!
