The Dream Healer — An opera in two acts

I wrote a longer than usual post on my blog about this new Canadian opera to be performed at the Chan Centre in March 2008 to celebrate UBC’s centenary. I was privileged to attend a preview of it this past week, with excerpts and arias and readings, performed at Cecil Green Park at UBC. The opera is written by a local composer, Lloyd Burritt, and is based on Timothy Findley’s book, Pilgrim. If you have read the book you will know that it deals with Carl Jung, and his marriage, along with patients in his clinic in Zuric, one of whom is Pilgrim.

The young singers were from the UBC opera program and they gave a truly wonderful performance of the arias chosen. One of the librettists, Don Mowat, along with another actress, Carolyn Finlay read from the libretto. It was indeed an incredible event and I was very pleased to be present.

Because it’s a long post I have chosen to provide this link, rather than post the whole thing. I hope you will pop across and read it all. I think you will hear more about the is opera as the time draws near. I certainly knew nothing about it before this performance.
