Airports and does YVR measure up…

Now granted, I am not a frequent traveler.  But I have been through a few airports….Glasgow, Heathrow, Gatwick, JFK, Atlanta, Denver, Seattle, O’Hare, San Diego and LAX.

And despite the bad press and tasering deaths…I think YVR does pretty well.

It makes sense.

I like that  once we check in and pass through the duty free (oddly enough) that it is just me and other travellers.   I like that there are plenty of eats and shops and that it is all calm and orderly.

I dislike the LONG MARCH to get from your plane to your bags and customs…but again, the signs are easy to follow and it feels open and clear.

Amazingly all the customs guys this time were all nice.

Even the security at YVR were friendly…they were very helpful with me when I realized that my key chain with my SWISS ARMY KNIFE was in my carry on.

It made sense.

JFK…was ok…except for all the delays and confusing signage and little help in finding ground transportation or why my flight was delayed.

LAX…you can tell the security people don’t get paid enough.   They can barely speak to you.

The Air Canada staff at LAX??? OMG.  SO freaking rude.
We were waved to a computer check in.  Did that..eventually.  But then there was nobody around to tell us what to do next.  We asked where we took our luggage.  The woman didn’t even walk closer, just waved a hand vaguely in a direction…no help.

Had to finally grab a woman to get her to explain where we went next.

So I think YVR is doing a good job.  They could do with a few more humans around to help confused folks…but otherwise it is a nice place to spend HOURS waiting for planes.

Now…HOPEFULLY the new Skytrain line that goes out there will actually be practical for people with luggage.  We shall see.

  1. Well it’s not too bad in comparison and I love the decoration when you come back home. Food is dreadful in the international and US terminal. We usually go over to the domestic. After all what else can you do but eat in the three hours you must wait in the terminals, especially when no one feeds you any more on North American flights.

  2. the food choices do suck.
Oh man..we had Wolfgang Pucks at LAX…boy that was soooo yummy
