BlogHer, Me and Canada

I posted on Crunchy Carpets about some of my thoughts on my first BlogHer Conference.

BlogHer for those that DON’T know is a community site for women bloggers that has morphed into this HUGE powerhouse. This was their fourth conference (I think) and each one if bigger than the last.

Check it out if you haven’t. Especially check out their ad network. While NOBODY makes a ton of cash from their ads, BlogHer IMO has the best set up for an affiliate network …it feels like the pre Web 2.0 models and I wish there were more. It is fairer to us SMALL time bloggers.

I wish there was a model like this for Canadian Bloggers, as while I love BlogHer their companies are more US focused and based.

“My Name is Kate had long ago talked about a BlogHer NORTH concept….Something that I would wholeheartedly support.

Even in a ‘reach out’ format like BlogHer has done. Something that would be based in JUST Toronto or Vancouver, but that could hit all the major cities across Canada.

Corporations and Advertisers in Canada seem to be lagging in their respect and knowledge for the power of the blog.

They need to see just how many people in Canada rely on the internet and blogs for their information on products and services, both techie and non.

There are many groups for bloggers in the various cities..but they have a ‘fringe’ feeling….and need something BIG to give them/us street cred.”

I also want to point out that there was a WHOLE lot of Canadian bloggers down there and managed to find NONE of them….how pathetic is that!?
