Christmas in July for some people…

Twitter is all a flutter about the bloody iPhone.

First everyone was in agony because it was only available in the US.

Now it is here. In Canada.

But Rogers got the deal and people were FREAKING over the price.

It has not stopped people lining up at the stores to buy theirs and to twitter about their excitement about it not being activated fast enough.

People. It is a phone.

A phone with gadgets that looks pretty.

And sure…if it was affordable and I didn’t have to line up, MAYBE I would consider buying one.

Maybe…but to line up….really????

I love NEW SHINY THINGS as much as the next person..but I have always been more than happy to wait for it….

I think the last thing I lined up for was the first Batman movie and well, I won’t line up anymore for movies, thanks.

Unless it is a line for food and we are starving..you probably won’t see me in it.

It has nothing to do with ‘not getting it’…..I don’t WANT to be part of it….if lining up for gadgets makes you ‘cutting edge’ keep me out of it.

I will wait…..patiently.

Marketing is so easy these days….positive or negative publicity is so easy to spread thank to the net and things like Twitter.

And this proves how powerful APPLE’s marketing magic really is. They make pretty toys…that cannot be denied.

They must be to have people pay all that money and sell their souls to Rogers for the opportunity to show off their new toys at the all the Yaletown bars and coffee shops.

Snob?

Maybe….

But you won’t catch me lining up overnight for the Boxing Day sales or the latest toy that only the parents think their kids need…..

  1. An unpopular opinion, perhaps, but I’m with you on this one. I will rarely line up at *restaurants* let alone at retail outlets. Life’s too short and my time is valuable to me. Don’t drink the Kool-Aid.

  2. I agree, it’s a bloody phone. Man, it’s like bran name means more than anything these days. Sure it is a cool gadget, but jebus I have a cheap Telus phone I bought two years ago… I can talk on it. That’s all I need the bloody thing for.

  3. I have an iPod touch, which I am deeply in love with. When the map/sattellite feature came out for it, Darren went out and got one for himself.

I can’t imagine talking on it though - I find it really wide for my smallish hands. And its vaguely brick shaped - a thin brick, but a brick nonetheless.

I currently have an old motorola flip phone (a replacement for the one I lost in the trunk of my car for awhile, then found within 10 minutes of buying the new one - gah). It works okay, not the greatest reception though especially where I live.

Which is why I have a small crush on the LG Venus. One of the girls at the pool had one so I played with it a bit - it is awesome and I want it. Apparently, this thing works in basements that have no windows.

  4. I’m with you on that one. I have a phone. Granted, it’s a three year old LG that isn’t shiny, doesn’t take pictures or play music, but who cares? It works. I hardly use it anyway, and so I really don’t care if I have the latest gadget.

I only line up to pay for my groceries, thanks.
