I think community gardens are a great idea....everyone benefits...and it is such a postivie thing both on an individual basis as well as for the community. Where I use to live in Burnaby, my girls went to a Community Shcool...and right next to it we started a community garden....there was a very committed group who checked on it regularly...a nice shed was built by volunteers...and swings....and a very creative person engraved a gorgeous community sign for the garden....it was so nice....it truly did bring the community together...at harvest time...they would have bar-b-ques and share in the rewards of the garden.....I hope your garden comes to fruition...it will be a positive experience for all involved.....
