Let’s Talk Blogs

We have a lot of links to a lot of blogs on Wet Coast Women…probably a healthy cross section of blogging platforms.
So..what platform do you use and why?
Do you have your own URL?
And…..why do you blog?
Because of the low cost and my dh’s knowledge, I got my own URL for both my sites. I went with Wordpress based on what people had said and my own research.
I found a local host through one of my fellow mom bloggers!
While WP had a bit of a learning curve, I have enjoyed it and all the resources connected to it.

Blogger, because I found a book on it at the Library and I needed some help to get started.
Not my own URL.
I know Wordpress is said to be great but I find it quite difficult to use. I’m running a Wordpress blog concurrently, just to try it out, but I have not mastered it and have been scared to upgrade it. But maybe I should anyway since I don’t know the old version very well either. I see you are forcing us here!
By the way, the new MyBlogLog widget is so much better. Will it work with this?

Heh. I started with Diaryland, then to blogger (before it started looking sexy) and finally blogspirit (which looked a lot like typepad but was free).
Currently using wordpress and I lurve it, especially since I upgraded to v2.5. The new version is much easier to use than the old one.
As you can see, I’m fairly cheap when it comes to things like this. I don’t own my own domain/URL. It just LOOKS like I do, thanks to Darren’s fantabulous geek skills.
The only issue is, the commentluv plugin doesn’t seem to work with it.
And I blog because I can. I also work in a job where I’m basically paid not to have an opinion (and there are something I just will not blog about because of that), so its a good place to put my opinions rather than in anonymous letters to the editor
(of course, now that I’ve said that it’ll probably work)

Blogger because it is super easy, free, and the first thing I found for blogging when I searched about it. I don’t have my own domain. Don’t know why. Never thought about it lol. I blog because i can get stuff out, and document the sillies of the kids.

I prefer blogger. I have tried them all and find WP a little over complicated for what it is.
I have several URLs and a whack of blogspot.com accounts. It’s free, it’s simple, you login through google which is my main email housing format, all my email ALL of it goes to one gmail login. I love that, and it is so simple to just switch over to blogger and be logged in and type away. I also like that I can align the posts how ever I want, I don’t seem to see that freedom with WP.
I have told my web history a few times, basically in 1997 I decided to create a web site for my creative writing, and a journal has always been a part of it, as the www evolved and journals & “blogging” became a popular thing, I tried every format as it came and went. Sometime in 2003 I moved everything to Blogger. I still like it best.
