Anyone got any ideas???

Posted by crunchy | February 21, 2008 .

Started to panic last night.

We are booked at the beginning of April for 6 days at Disney.

But mom…our cat sitter is coming with us.

Now I have to find a house/cat sitter for three cats and see about boarding Callie.

I  HATE the thought of boarding her for that long..but don’t really have a choice.  I just feel bad about it.

Anybody in the lower mainland know about any good pet care solutions?

I get google alerts on pets. That’s how I came acroos your post. Try a professional pet sitter. Try either Pet Sitters, International (petsit.com), National Organization of Professional Pet Sitters, or Petsitusa.com/ I am sure you could find someone there. All you need is your zip code.

I know my mom’s friend has someone who comes to her house (twice a day, I think) to check in on the cat. This lady has a business, I think, but it would probably be out of Richmond. Maybe your vet knows someone like this? If you’d like, I could ask my mom for more details…have fun at Disney!

Oh! Oh! Call the Chat-eau Alouette in Maple Ridge. I take Missy there when we go away (and she’s 20). They board dogs too.

Quite reasonable - for the cats its $20/day and they get their own room (two cats can share), includes all food and litter, and daily cavorting in Tabby’s Treehouse and videos like The Great Mouse Detective.

I’m rereading that and realize now it sounds absolutely insane. But it exists. Its like Disneyland for cats. Mine is 20 and goes there for a week every year and they take good care of her.

Its run by a vet so its not some fly by night place (Alouette Animal Hospital maybe? I think that’s the name). Very clean, animals very well cared for (a little nuts, mind you :))

We always used Silver Birch in Surrey for our dogs. It was a very good kennel run by British people. I haven’t had a dog for a few years so don’t know if they still own but I’ll bet they do.

I have a friend who is a guide leader with me. This means she has had a criminal record check and everything. She thinks that she would be able to do it. If you would like to talk to her about it email me and I will give you her email address. (I think she may also be willing to sit the dog.)

So going on a trip isn’t that easy when you have pets….We have been fortunate that we haven’t had to board Bert….hubbies parents live right next door and put him in and out and feed him….he really is a very low maintenance dog…..good luck…sounds like people have given you some great suggestions…
