What are YOU spending your Dividend Cheque on?

This is for the the BC’ers….I received my $100 from our Premier today.

It is supposed to help me go green. It is supposed to take the pain away from them eco tax that is being placed on our gas come July 1st.

Some how, at $1.45 a litre…it ain’t really going to help.

I don’t even think that covers a monthly bus pass.

Perhaps a small wheelie shopping cart for more eco friendly groceries….or perhaps for a harness to put on the dog to help pull $200 worth of groceries home.

Have you noticed how expensive your grocery bills are these days?

While rebates and ‘free’ money is always sweet…I just feel there was a better way to do things and to spend MY money on.

What do you think?

  1. It will go on gas. Unfortunately people living in the north of the province are being unfairly taxed I think. We have no transit, not even a bus service. To get food, visit the doctor, and other basic necessities it involves long drives. I my case a 100 km one way. If I had the option to use transit I would. Unfortunately up here so many are being laid off due to the mountain pine beetle epidemic, with the higher gas prices and therefore higher prices for everything else it is going to cause real hardship, but of course a government that can vote themselves huge raises don’t get down to the working man and retirees level do they. I don’t think I would worry too much about gas if I was getting the money they are making but on a pension it is no joke and many families will be going without because they have to spend the cash just to get around. We in the north are really ticked off about this.

  2. Ha. You know how I feel about this crap already.

What’s it going to go to? House insurance. We’re lucky that our home insurance isn’t all that much (seriously, combining your house insurance with car and life insurance at one agency saves quite a bit) so the two dividend cheques should just about cover it.

  3. Although it was nice to see it arrive - it was a kick in the pants as well. So let’s see….here in Victoria we could use $100 to get on the ferry - but not to get back on the Island. We could almost fill the van. We could buy a few groceries, but could NOT eat out as a family at an actual restaurant. My hubby could get some chunk change back on his monthly bus pass. Or we could do what our annoying neighbours did - I actually saw them getting out of their car with lightbulbs, a new recycling bin and some fans for their house.

I think I will whittle mine away with new summer dresses for the girls, some sunscreen and a hat. Oh, and maybe a bottle of chilled white wine to help take the sting out of my arse.

    Thanks Mr. Campbell.
